<p>Inspired by the Parlamentarium in Brussels, the local Europa Experience in Copenhague, Denmark, is a multimedia space open to visitors, offering direct and fascinating insight into European politics, history and daily life.</p>

<p>From 24 November 2019, visitors can discover how decisions are made at the European level, how the European legislation affects their daily life, and how citizens can make their voice heard. The multimedia and interactive exhibition is available in 24 languages.</p>

The Parlamentarium, the EP’s Visitor Centre, is hosting the temporary exhibition “Andrei Sakharov: Scientist, Dissident, Human Rights Activist” as part of the celebrations marking 100 years since the birth of Andrei Sakharov, a man who inspired the creation of European Parliament’s Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. Created in partnership with the Sakharov Center in Moscow, Russia, and the Sakharov Research Centre in Kaunas, Lithuania, the exhibition highlights the major events in the life of Andrei Sakharov, also known as the “father of the Soviet hydrogen bomb”.

From 11-17 October 2021, The European Parliament welcomes 14 Sakharov Fellows. Since 2016, the European Parliament runs an annual programme for human rights defenders, known as the Sakharov Fellowship Programme. This programme brings together a selected group of human rights activists from around the world in order to discuss new ways to collaborate and network on human rights causes. On that occasion, Lorent Saleh, the Sakharov Prize Laureate from 2017, visits (with seceral activists) the newly-renovated exhibition space dedicated to the Sakharov prize in the Parlamentarium in Brussels. Extracts from the visit and statements of Lorent Saleh and two Shakarov fellows Jorge Ruiz Reyes, researcher at the Human Rights Center of Universidad Iberoamericana, in Mexico, and Abdelsamee Abouelhamd, activist and artist using theatre and performance to raise awareness about civil and economic rights in Egypt.

David SASSOLI, EP President, visits the temporary exhibition at the Parlamentarium showing portraits of women accompanied by the new Samu Social of Brussels. The European Parliament provided a place for homeless women to stay in the offices of officials who were required to work from home during the lockdown. The women were given their own rooms that they could use night and day, to give them space and security during a moment of crisis.
