On 9 September 1939, the Wehrmacht entered Mosina, a town near Poznań. Repression, arrests and massacres began immediately. The most tragic year was 1943, when the German occupation authorities uncovered a resistance movement in Mosina. Among those persecuted was the Jeżewicz family.

Katarina’s father survived the Holocaust in inhuman conditions but he lost many family members in the Auschwitz concentration camp. As the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, Katarina wanted to share her important testimony with future generations. Even decades later, it is not easy to talk about these tragic events.

75th anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz Concentration Camp: The testimony of Serge Klarsfeld

The constitutive meetings of the European Parliament's standing committees and subcommittees take place in Brussels on 10 July 2019, following the appointment of their members in the plenary sitting of 3-4 July. During the meetings, each committee and subcommittee will elect its respective bureau, made up of a Chair and Vice-Chairs, for a two-and-a-half year mandate. The newly set up committees will then start holding their regular meetings during the week of 22 July.

Humanitarian visas are one of the tools that countries can use to enable people in need to access international protection legally and safely.

In its 2016 resolution, Parliament already called on Member States to 'make use of any existing possibilities to provide for humanitarian visas', while the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) Committee tried unsuccessfully to address the issue as part of the review of the Visa Code. Consequently, on 16 October 2018, the LIBE committee adopted a legislative own-initiative report on humanitarian visas. It called on the Commission to submit by March 2019 a proposal for a regulation establishing a European humanitarian visa giving access to European territory for the sole purpose of submitting an application for international protection in the Member State issuing the visa.
