Raportul Conferinței privind viitorul Europei este finalizat, după un proces care a durat un an întreg. Parlamentul European, Consiliul și Comisia Europeană au promis să asculte ce spun cetățenii Uniunii Europene și să țină cont de propunerile lor ori de câte ori este posibil. Raportul este rezultatul unei serii de dezbateri care le-a dat oamenilor din întreaga Uniune șansa de a-și face cunoscute ideile.

The work of CONT committee&nbsp;involves controlling and monitoring the correct, targeted use of the budget (some EUR 166 billion in 2019). The main responsibility for budget management lies with the European Commission, which distributes the lion's share of the funds. Some 80% of the money goes to the Member States, around 13% is invested around the world, and roughly 7% is spent on administration.

The Committee on Budgetary Control is supported in its work by the European Court of Auditors (ECA) in Luxembourg. The remit also covers the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and the European Investment Bank (EIB). CONT is also involved in all legislative procedures concerning issues relating to the proper management of the budget and the safeguarding of the EU's financial interests. The Committee is also committed to having a robust European Public Prosecutor's Office.

Giuseppe CONTE, Italian Prime Minister, is the seventeenth EU leader to debate the future of Europe with MEPs, in plenary session in Strasbourg.

The Europeans want the EU to change. This is why the European Parliament is taking the leadership over a reform of the EU.

Parliament set out its vision for the future of Europe in three resolutions voted in plenary session on 16 February 2017. MEPs suggested, among other things: turning the Council of Ministers into a genuine second legislative chamber, and its configurations into preparatory bodies similar to Parliament’s committees, appointing an EU finance minister and giving the EU Commission the power to formulate and give effect to a common EU economic policy, backed up by a euro-area budget, and creating a fiscal capacity consisting of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) and specific additional budgetary capacity for the euro area, funded by its members as a part of the EU budget.

After the hearing by the Committee on Budgets (BUDG) and the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT) of the European Parliament, the committees prepare an evaluation letter on the candidate. Parliament is expected to vote on the new Commission as a whole on 23 October.

Parliament demands measures that enable people with disabilities to participate socially and in the labour market, and propose ways to address discrimination. MEPs reaffirm that the right of persons with disabilities to live independently has to be fully guaranteed through policies and legislation focused on inclusion that will eradicate stereotypes and ableism.

&lt;p>In light of this summer’s devastating droughts and forest fires across Europe, MEPs discuss how to increase EU efforts to fight climate change. In a debate. MEPs quiz the Commission and Council on the EU’s immediate support to national and regional authorities, including through the activation of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, following severe droughts and forest fires, which hit several European countries this summer. These disasters caused loss of life and have had a devastating impact on people’s homes and livelihoods, as well as on sectors like farming.&lt;/p>

A delegation of the Budgetary Control Committee went to Warsaw on a fact-finding trip to look into how taxpayers’ money is being managed and whether the governance systems and procedures in place are fit for the upcoming challenge of managing the recovery funds. MEPs met investigative journalists and associations of judges, prosecutors and NGOs, as well as public authorities, government and parliament members. At the end of the visit, they hold a press conference on the outcomes.

&lt;p>A delegation of seven MEPs, led by Budgetary Control Committee chair Monika Hohlmeier (EPP, DE) travels to Warsaw to look into the disbursement of EU funds. During that travel, MEPs visit the European Border and Coast Guard agency headquarters in Warsaw, to continue discussions with them following Parliament’s initial decision to postpone the approval of Frontex’s accounts. Parliament will reassess whether the agency has acted upon Parliament’s remarks at a second vote in October 2022.&lt;/p>
