MEPs debate on Parliament’s demands for the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), taking place in Dubai from 30 November. The Parliament calls for action in view of the COP28, which takes stock of the progress made on implementing the 2015 Paris Agreement. MEPs want global financial contributions to be continued and increased, better efforts to protect, conserve and restore biodiversity and global targets to triple renewable energy and double energy efficiency by 2030. They also call for an end to all direct and indirect fossil fuel subsidies.

Under the new rules, national minimum wages would have to enable workers to lead a decent life, taking into account the cost of living and wider pay levels. To facilitate an adequacy assessment of existing statutory minimum wages, EU countries may establish a basket of goods and services at real prices, or set it at 60% of the gross median wage and 50% of the gross average wage.
