Recent peace agreement in the Middle East and the role of the EU: MEPs debate (part 3)

MEPs debate on the recent Russian incursions into EU airspace. The debate follows incidents in which Russian drones and aircraft violated both Polish and Estonian airspace in recent weeks. It also comes after drones of unidentified origin caused disturbances at and around civilian airports and military bases in Denmark – events that the Danish authorities have referred to as “concerted hybrid attacks”.

The EU’s role in supporting the recent peace efforts for Gaza and a two-state solution: MEPs debate (part 3)

MEPs debate with the Commission and the Danish Council Presidency the details of the trade agreement with the US, and possible deals with other countries. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US President Donald Trump announced a deal on tariffs and trade on 27 July, but questions about its implementation details remain. The prospect of further deals with other trade partners will also be discussed. MEPs are likely to raise the agreement concluded with Mercosur, whose ratification is pending, and the agreed update of the agreement with Mexico, among others.

MEPs assess the latest developments in EU-US trade relations with Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič and Danish Minister Marie Bjerre for the Council during the plenary session in Strasbourg. Council and Commission are seeking a negotiated solution with the US to restore stability and predictability in transatlantic trade relations, but has also prepared for potential countermeasures if no agreement is reached. MEPs, together with Commission and Council representatives, debate the preparations for the first EU-UK summit on British soil since Brexit. EU and UK leaders will meet in London on 19 May for the first institutional bilateral gathering in Britain since the UK left the EU in 2020. Among other topics, they will discuss defence cooperation, opportunities for young people, and trade issues – the latter in the wake of the new US tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on trade partners.
