Edith Steinschreiber Bruck was born in 1931 in Tiszabercel, a small town in Hungary close to the border with Slovakia and Ukraine. She is a writer, poet, screenwriter, director, playwright, translator, and Holocaust survivor. Let’s listen to her story. Hundreds of stories, documents, photos and videos published by people from all over Europe. This is ‘My History’, a collaborative project of the European Parliament, where history and the lives of European citizens coincide.

Lorent SALEH, Sakharov Prize 2017, staged the performance "White torture" at the garage of the European Parliament in Brussels. Trapped in a cage, he showed artistically the suffering of his imprisonment and re-created the atmosphere of a torture centre, thanks to lighting effects, special sounds and several volunteers playing the part of policemen or prisoners.

Ingrid Betancourt Pulecio is a Colombian-French politician, former senator and anti-corruption activist, especially opposing political corruption. Betancourt was kidnapped by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) on 23 February 2002 while campaigning for the Colombian presidency as a Green, and was rescued by Colombian security forces six and a half years later on 2 July 2008. On the 11th November 2009 she visited the European Parliament and addressed the plenary.
