SOUNDBITE (English), Martin SCHULZ, EP President, It is a pleasure for the European Parliament to welcome the Prime Minister of Canada after signing the CETA agreement a couple of minutes ago at the Council together with Prime Minister FICO as the rotating presidency of the EU and Presidents Jean-Claude JUNCKER and Donald TUSK for the institutions. It is now a pleasure for me to welcome the Prime Minster of Canada in the chamber ratifying the CETA agreement, I hope in December.

SOUNDBITE (English), Martin SCHULZ, EP President, We are after such a long period of work, very grateful, to the Prime Minster who contributed a lot to the success, to you personally, to your minister in charge Chrystia FREELAND who is with you here,and I welcome also to the EP. For us this is also an important moment, not only joy, but also hope that with the CETA agreement we have after a very intensive week of negotiations, and agreement which is in my eyes a kind of goal standard for the future trade agreements of the EU, and not only of the union also perhaps of other countries and regions in the world. And we are with what we did today, bringing rules to globalisation, that is exactly what we have to do.

SOUNDBITE (English), Justin TRUDEAU, Canadian Prime Minister, It's a real pleasure for me to be here today visiting the European Parliement to thank Martin personally for his leadership in the months leading up to the signing of the CETA but also I thank him in advance of the hard work he is going to do in order to make sure that it gets gets ratified quickly, so that citizens on both sides of the Atlantic can benefit from the growth, from the prosperity, from the opportunities that will come from this new accord.

SOUNDBITE (English), Justin TRUDEAU, Canadian Prime Minister, Obviously the EU and Canada are very much aligned in progressive values, in concern about the environment, concern about respecting labour rights, protecting individuals and citizens and small businesses. This is where we line up well to come together to show the world that at a time where there are tremendous levels of worry about globalisation, about trade, that we can create trade agreements that will benefit the Middle class and those working hard to join. Create opportunities in businesses in both of our regions to, to expand to new markets, to take on ne opportunities, to challenge themselves and offer more to citizens.
