The 2018 winner of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought has been released from prison after spending more than 5 years behind bars. He was sentenced in 2015 by a Russian court to 20 years in prison for “plotting terrorist acts”. His trial was described as unfair by international organisations.
