How could human beings do such  terrible things to other human beings?

How could human beings sink  to such levels of barbarity and depravity?

We must tell our children  about the vicious acts

About the guilt of the generation  of our fathers and grandfathers

when they committed the terrible crimes.

As a German citizen,  and for all postwar Germans,

it is our eternal duty  to never forget to remember

and to stand up  against the return of racism,

We have come together  here in Auschwitz today
