SOUNDBITE (French), Camille GIRA, Secretary of State for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure of Luxembourg, The Paris agreement also says that national contributions will be enshrined in this agreement, all partners must put forward their contributions, their INDCs a lot of them have done this already, revised up every 5 years. The Paris agreement includes a lot of solidarity for the developing countries in particular the poorest and the most vulnerable among them. There is a lot of capacity building and financing.

SOUNDBITE (English), Miguel ARIAS CA&#209;ETE, Member of the EC in charge of Climate Action and Energy, This is historic moment thanks to the greatest tint, to the efforts of the EU, the world has its first universal legally binding global climate deal. This is a new chapter in global climate governance, as we move from action of few by action of all. The Paris agreement is important in many levels. First of all to be efficient in our fight against climate change but more generally the deal reached over the weekend is a major win for the whole international community.

SOUNDBITE (English), Miguel ARIAS CA&#209;ETE, Member of the EC in charge of Climate Action and Energy, We were instrumental in building a broad coalition of developed and developing countries in favour of high ambition. The high ambition coalition was critical in achieving the global deal. All of the sudden the debate was not about developed versus developing as it was in Copenhagen, it was about the willing versus the unwilling. The result in Paris will decisively accelerate the transition from fossil to clean fuels, this trend is now irreversible.

SOUNDBITE (English), Miguel ARIAS CA&#209;ETE, Member of the EC in charge of Climate Action and Energy, The next step is to address the sectors not covered by the ETS, the COM will also make legislative proposals on efforts shaping land use change and forestry. We will also bring forward a communication on the decarbonising the transport sector, also upcoming energy proposals for renewables, market design, energy efficiency will play an important role in making the energy market cleaner and more efficient.

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Giovanni LA VIA (EPP, IT), Chair of the EP delegation , Thanks to the comprehensive leadership of the EU the COP has addressed a global problem by coming up with a global response, spread across all bringing everyone together to get a better world.

SOUNDBITE (English), Kathleen VAN BREMPT (S&amp;D, BE), We all together in the world but also in the EU need to ramp up our efforts because know that with the building blocs of the INDCs we will not build the common climate proof house, so extra effort will be necessary and therefore I would like to propose Mr Commissioner not to wait too long and I propose to continue our work in the high Ambition coalition, that you formed in the run up to Paris and contributed to a large success in the COP21.

SOUNDBITE (English), Ian DUNCAN (ECR, UK), Rapporteur on ETS (Emission trading system) , I think it is important to stress that we need to understand what this will mean what we are going to try going forward. Will we need again to revisit any of the EU climate and energy package? That must be answered I believe. I think we must recognize what this might mean for the Emission trading scheme, perhaps not in this first phase for revision but beyond that.

SOUNDBITE (English), Gerben-Jan GERBRANDY (ALDE, NL), It is in irreversible step towards a low carbon economy and even more importantly it is a huge signal to the financial world, only 0 carbon solutions will pay off. I think that is truly important.

SOUNDBITE (Dutch), Anne-Marie MINEUR (GUE/NGL, NL), The fossil can continue to make profit with petrol. We are not going to stop producing emission we are going to store them; shipping is not included so it is business as usual with all threats there. There is no compensation for the developing countries which is a disgrace for us.

SOUNDBITE (French), Yannick JADOT (Greens/EFA, FR), There are very potential tools, for example the 5 year review. We can probably looking forward to something like that in 2018, because it suggests a new governance of climate policy on a regular basis, Civil society ,companies and business and local authorities are going to be at place as in this new climate approach.
