SOUNDBITE (German): Martin SCHULZ, EP President: Dear colleagues, last Friday the world said good bye to Shimon Perez, this exceptional man of State and tirelessly defender for peace. Shimon Perez had a vision of a peaceful Middle East in which Israel would live with his Arabic neighbours and states peacefully together. Shimon Perez and others received the Oslo Nobel Peace Prize as a result for these efforts. Shimon Perez spoke before us in the European Parliament on a number of occasions and I think that you would agree with me that his personality and charisma and his ideas never failed to inspire us when he came to visit. His message was simple and clear, simply to fight for peace. The legacy of Shimon Perez is a very important one and it is up to the next generation of politicians in Israel and in the Middle East to pursue his path of peace and dialogue. On behalf of the European Parliament I would like to express my condolences to his family, his friends and of those who supported him and I hope we can stand for a minute in the honour of Shimon Perez.
