SOUNDBITE (English), Martin SCHULZ, EP President, <p>The EP is involved from the first moment in all the negotiations. Once art 50 is triggered, and for sure after the art 50 is concluded and ratified by the European Parliament, on the future relationship, on the treaties about the future relationship between UK and the EU has to be ratified in the EP, therefore if of the highest importance to be in touch, with the government and the parliament from the first moment.</p>

SOUNDBITE (English), Martin SCHULZ, <p>There is so much to do : the citizens&rsquo; rights, the question of free movement, access to the single market, the international trade relations of the EU are they still valid for the UK or  not? These are only a small part of all the questions on the table. Uncertainty is the opposite of what we need. We need more clarity, more certainty, therefore I urged the Prime minister to trigger art 50 as soon as possible.</p>

SOUNDBITE (English), Martin SCHULZ, A message for the British people: You are leaving the EU, but you are not leaving Europe. We want to stay in touch with you as keen as possible, but, on the other hand, EU cannot give up the principles on which the Union was founded.
