<p>SOUNDBITE (English), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, We unfortunately have learned that the European Parliament candidate to the position of chief prosecutor at the EPPO Laura Codruța K&ouml;vesi has been placed under a judicial regime by the Romanian authorities. This limits her personal freedoms, it bans from leaving the country without authorization and obliges her to go and see the police and as she cannot make statements to the press. Bearing in mind the principle of noninterference with judicial proceedings and in full respect of the presumption of innocence I wish to express all of the concern of the European Parliament for the situation that has occurred and I want to make it very clear that Ms K&ouml;vesi remains our candidate and continues to enjoy our respect and our support. (Applause) Therefore I request that the Romanian authorities respect sincere cooperation between member states and institutions and that it does not put in place obstacles to the candidacy of Ms K&ouml;vesi for all parts of the selection procedure for the position of chief prosecutor. Today I will be writing a letter to this end to the Romanian authorities as was decided this morning by the Conference of Presidents. (Applause)</p>
