Time isn't on the side of representatives in Copenhagen, with days packed to the brim with meetings, events and canvassing. However, the EU's chief climate negotiator Artur Runge-Metzger remains optimistic about the outcome.

Is it easy to lead such a negotiation   for the EU in this conference?

It's a lot of work, long hours every day,   and you have to talk to so many people -

internally within the EU   and also to your partners.

The whole day is just crammed   and packed with work.

Do you get other information   from the other delegations,

Do you get that information in feedback?

Of course. This is the purpose   of meeting here in one place -

with our partners in the developing world   and also across the Atlantic.

That is the main purpose.   It's not just sitting in the negotiation room,

it's also meeting before, after,   trying to explain,

finding out where the difference is   and what could be the consensus.

What is the most difficult part for you?   Is it really technical negotiation?

What is the main problem   from the logistical point of view?

everybody expecting that this will lead   to a big deal. That's a big burden.

We need to decide something where we   can come out of the meeting room here

and nobody is pointing at you   and saying, "The emperor is naked."

I'm optimistic because   the political momentum is there.

As you know, there are more than   100 leaders assembling here next week.

I don't think they'd come if they weren't   confident of a result in Copenhagen.

What about the European position   on the 30% reduction in CO2 emissions?

This is something that we'll play in the   endgame, at the very end of the session.
