SOUNDBITE (French), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, Welcome to the opening of the Parlamentarium of Strasbourg, official venue of the European Parliament and symbol of the reunification for all Europe.  With this 3rd venue after the Parlamentarium in Brussels and Berlin we are going to let visitors discover the European democracy.

SOUNDBITE (French), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, Our citizens need to have at their disposal all information allowing them to make their choices. Thanks to this Parlamentarium we are doing one step towards the citizens. With the European elections in 2019 we are going to celebrate also the 40th birthday of the first direct universal vote for European Parliament elections. Without doubt this is a very important moment for EU, which memory goes back to Simone Veil. Her spirit, her work, her example and her legacy have to inspire us to build a more efficient Europe, closer and even more democratic. This evening I have intention to propose to the Bureau of the EP that this Parlamentarium should have the name Simone Veil.

SOUNDBITE (French), Roland RIES, Mayor of Strasbourg , The visitors will directly understand why Strasbourg had been chosen to be the democratic headquarter par excellence of the European Union. This situation inherited by history is not replaceable and believe me in this Europe that seeks to refound itself on a more political vision, honouring the symbol of the pas, we know it all this is indispensable for draw a good perspective for the future.
