Does European industry  still have a future?

Globalisation and unfair competition from  certain emerging economies,

MEPs don't want to give way to  the temptation of protectionism,

in terms of environmental  or social standards for example,

should also be required from  non-EU producers

Some 57 million people in Europe  make their livelihoods in industry,

but it has been on the decline  since the 1990s.

To create jobs MEPs are insisting on  better training for workers.

We need to use  the European Social Fund,

and opening up universities  to qualified workers.

Increasing investment in research and  development as well as innovation

including in  the new technologies sector.

To be competitive  one has to realise that

you'll do much better by investing in  IT rather than in physical infrastructure.

Another means of boosting  industrial competitiveness

Now MEPs have to persuade leaders of  the validity of these recommendations.
