MEPs have been stepping out with author and activist Eve Ensler ahead of this week’s debate and vote on combating violence against women and girls.

MEPs have been stepping out  with author and activist Eve Ensler,

ready for a mass dance and protest  around the world next week.

They're hoping a billion people will take part.

I'm seeing something  we have never seen before,

which is the biggest rising on the planet  of women and men

to end violence against women and girls.

It really is the biggest feminist tsunami  that's ever happened.

It just has to stop because  women's rights are human rights.

As women we're sick and tired  of this feeling that we always get:

'Violence against women is just part  of the game, it's not as important.'

In German we say 'Kavaliersdelinquant',  a delinquency of cavaliers,

Stop violence against women.  It is possible and let's do it.

and I have to say  it was absolutely amazing

to see the breakthrough  in consciousness we saw,

where sexual violence  was on every paper front page,

nine articles a day,  in the centre of every discourse,

every discussion and topic,  where it rightfully belongs.

Gang rape is not only a thing  that happens in India.

We know it happens in Europe,  in America, all over the entire planet.

You know I was raped as a very  young man. I didn't talk about it.

When I was 18 years old  I was raped by a heterosexual man.

We have to say to people, 'Feel good  in your body, feel good about who you are.'

I've never understood why violence  against women is a women's issue.

We don't rape ourselves. We don't beat  ourselves. It actually is done to us by men.

If enough brave men come forward  and really begin to say,

'This means as much to me  that my daughter grows up in a world

where she can walk where she wants,  wear what she wants, be who she is,

without fear of harassment,  rape or violence.'

When men care that much  it will all change.
