Alexandre Lamfalussy was a Belgian economist and central banker. He was the founding president of the European Monetary Institute (1994 to 1997), forerunner of the European Central Bank. In 1993, he appeared before the EP Monetary and Economic Committee in a procedure to be appointed president of the EMI.
