SOUNDBITE (English), Jerzy BUZEK (EPP, PL), What is the most important is a legally binding agreement for the whole planet and then the participants will be in the same position and the level playing field will be fair. Next issue, also very important is that national determinate contributions which could be very different and especially in the case of big emitters they should be as ambitious as the European Union.

SOUNDBITE (English), Jerzy BUZEK (EPP, PL), We need of course to use the best technologies, this is always most important, if we can compare to the current situation to the situation 20 or 30 years ago, with old technologies it was much more difficult and much more costly to go forward with mitigation, to diminish CO2 emission and now we should go the same way by using new technologies.

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Marco AFFRONTE (EFDD, IT), The Parliament's position which was voted during the October sessionwas very strong, on some points especially. We know that the European Commission has been trying and still tries to defend these points but we received a text, yesterday, that was disappointing. We also think that they are trying to play a trick on us. Loweringthe limit to 1.5 degrees from now until the end of the centuryissomething positive, but it comes without defining a precise path to reach this goal. That means teasingthe public with a positive result but without a concrete plan on how to achieve it.

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Marco AFFRONTE (EFDD, IT), We don't know what happened; we had an important meeting with the representatives of indigenous countries yesterday, especially with the Sami that are the only indigenous population in Europe, and they expressed their great concerns about the fact that Humanrights issuehave disappearedin this new text. It didn't simply loose importance, the word indigenous, the idea of indigenous, completely vanished. But on the point 17 of the European Parliament it is clearly written that we have to defend also the rights of the indigenous population.

SOUNDBITE (English), Giovanni LA VIA (EPP, IT), The deal has to be fair which means that developed countries should not be alone to bear the financial costs of climate adaptation after 2020. All countries who are able to do so should contribute. We need a financial package that reflects today&rsquo;s reality, not the reality of the last century. On the enforcement side the deal must at least be binding at national level meaning through national laws.

SOUNDBITE (English), Giovanni LA VIA (EPP, IT), Finally I want to insist on the necessary inclusion of the international aviation and shipping in the Paris deal. So far no effort is requested from them. This must be repeated, Paris need to set a clear mandate for both. Both two sectors could represent up to 40 per cent of all global emission by 2050 if they are left unregulated according to a study published by the European Parliament service and I ask Miguel for pushing for it, we as Member of the Parliament strongly request to reconsider the text.
