During the plenary session (01-04/10/2018) of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, MEPs debate and vote on a new law setting a 45% target, proposed by the Environment Committee, for reducing carbon dioxide emissions for new cars by 2030, with an intermediate target of 20% by 2025. Carmakers would also have to increase the market share of electric cars and low- emission vehicles. Statements by Miriam DALLI (S&D, MT) and Miguel ARIAS CAÑETE, Member of the EC in charge of Climate Action and Energy. The results from the vote are: 389 in favour, 239 against and 41 abstentions.
