Protection of whistleblowers - 8th parliamentary term
Ημερομηνία συμβάντος: 16/11/2018
EU rules are needed to better protect and support whistle-blowers and their role in revealing serious breaches of the public interest, such as corruption, miscarriages of justice, tax avoidance, lack of protection for food safety or the environment and attacks on social, human or workers’ rights.
Whistle-blowers have proved to be a crucial resource in revealing harm to the public interest.
Vote on a definition of 'whistle-blower' broad enough; protect not only reports of unlawful acts, but also disclosures of a breach of public interest; introduce reporting mechanisms in public and private organisations; EU agency to advise, guide and collect reports from whistle-blowers; extend role of EU Ombudsman to coordinate MS in protecting whistle-blowers.
