SOUNDBITE (English), Jo LEINEN (S&amp;D, DE), Vice-chair of EP delegation to COP24 , So EP delegation quite successful, we met different parts of the world, partners from the Maldives to China and we got an impression of how much engagement is existing to limit global temperature. But as well how much desperation exists, we are too slow and doing too little.

SOUNDBITE (English), Jo LEINEN (S&amp;D, DE), Vice-chair of EP delegation to COP24 , what is encouraging is that there is more taking place outside than inside the negotiation room. You see here industries that want to go ahead, you see here cities and regions that have their own climate neutral concepts, you can see a lively civil society around the globe. So I would say COP results are important but they're not the only factor whether we are successful or not. The message is understood around the globe, that we are three minutes before 12.

SOUNDBITE (English), Jo LEINEN (S&amp;D, DE), Vice-chair of EP delegation to COP24, The leadership in Beijing has well understood that this issue is so important for their own country and the big population, and they will suffer as well a lot if we have rising temperatures. But they are as well taking responsibility on the global level. So I think EU and China are the two pillars of success of the COPs of the UN. The Chinese are still making the game of whether they are a developed country or whether they are still a developing country, they are a little bit playing on both ends to avoid the requirements that we have, but little by little I think we have to have the same rule book and the same objectives. China is a positive factor in the climate business.
