Therefore, I think that the European responsibility is to maintain Greece in the eurom because, otherwise, the political, strategical and geopolitical repercusions would be very severe. If Greece were to get out, they would take an extremist line, so now that they are saying 'yes' after having said 'no' about everything for the last days, I think we now should try not to lose contact with them."

SOUNDBITE (Spanish), Mariano RAJOY, Spanish Prime Minister, "On top of the deterioration of the economic situation, there's a deterioration of the confidence between the eurozone members and the Greek government, especially after the surprinsing referendum and, therefore, there needs to be an effort for confidence to be re-established. We will have a constructive position, we always have. We think it is good to have Greece in the eurozone but, we insist that if one belongs to a club, you have to follow it's rules and procedures."

SOUNDBITE (Spanish), Mariano RAJOY, Spanish Prime Minister, (On a temporary Grexit) "Let's not talk about that, it's not in the last paper we were given, and therefore what we are trying is to look at the new Greek proposalsm some of them constitute a step forward - they have requested a programme, which they didn't want, for three years -, they have expressed some commitments, we now have to see whether they are sufficient but, I insist, the most important factor is confidence, because it doesn't make sense to accept commitments that are then not implemented. I think recovering confidence is now the most important part, we are going to listen to the Greek minister and then to the Prime Minister and then we will take on the details."
