And for this reason we are here in Marrakech for discussing how to implement and how we can achieve the goals of the Paris agreement.

SOUNDBITE (English), Giovanni LA VIA (EPP, IT), Head of the EP Delegation, Our contribution is very very important for different reasons. After the United States elections, it is quite clear that the European Union have to lead the process, and we want to do it. We want to be ambitious but we want also not to reduce the competitiveness of our industry. For this reason we have to use a balanced approach and we have to combine from one side the environment and from the other side the competitiveness of our industries.

SOUNDBITE (English), Giovanni LA VIA (EPP, IT), Head of the EP Delegation, We know well that probably the most important problems will be in Africa, because if the level of the temperature is going to increase, we are going to have in some areas of African continent, some areas in which it will not possible to live and we are going to see an increasing of migration flows and big and big problems for the European Union, and for many countries.

SOUNDBITE (English), Giovanni LA VIA (EPP, IT), Head of the EP Delegation, It is not so easy to achieve the final result that we commit ourselves to achieve in Paris. 100 billion per year after 2020 it is a big amount of money. The European Union is the biggest donor but it is clear that we are going to have all the big players around the world to make a big effort for achieving that result. We want a cleaner and healthier planet, and for achieving this result we need money for the poorest countries.

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Giovanni LA VIA (EPP, IT), Head of the EP Delegation, On the fact that everybody is in Marrakech, 195 delegations, all countries, especially the development countries, discussing on the way to achieve the goals of Paris agreements, and on how to get to real results from one side on the financial aspects but also on the objective of maintaining the increase of world temperature below 2 degrees. Because in Paris the objectives were agreed but not the instruments to achieve those objectives.

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Giovanni LA VIA (EPP, IT), Head of the EP Delegation, explains how the financial instrument should work, so donor, industrialized countries will make a 100 billion contribution a year to the climate change fund to help poorest countries to develop within a clean energy and new technologies approach; which will make a healthier and cleaner world for future generations.
