Europe Day is celebrated on or around 9 May every year to commemorate a speech by French Foreign Minister, Robert Schuman, on 9 May 1950 which led to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community the following year and became the forerunner of the European Union of today. In the context of Europe Day on May 9, the EU institutions are hosting a wide range of online and on-site activities at their locations. The European Parliament participates, with his buildings in Strasbourg welcoming citizens.
