SOUNDBITE (English), Pervenche BER&#200;S (S&amp;D, FR), "The ECON Committee from the European Parliament adopted this position because it does demonstrate that there's a way forward and that we could inspire the five Presidents and also the European Council, that there's a way that you can move ahead and to make the situation inside the EMU better, to have a deeper EMU that allows to avoid some of the lack that we have now in economic governance. Also I think some of the message that we are conveying in this report, related for example to the nature and calendar of structural reform, but also to the importance of investment. Our point, that's really worth to mention, not to say en passant, that you also have to challenge the question of the debt level, or of the Troika."

SOUNDBITE (English), Pervenche BER&#200;S (S&amp;D, FR), "And there's just one last point I would like to raise, which is very, very important in the outcome of this report, is this whole idea that before the Commission ask the Member States to discuss their own country specific recommendations or their strategy for their fiscal position, you need to have an overall assessment of the Eurozone and to draw the conclusions from it."

SOUNDBITE (English), Pervenche BER&#200;S (S&amp;D, FR), "All the files that we have identified that need to be engaged for middle or long term change in the EMU, that will concern of course the integration of the treaty in the treaty of the ESM and the Fiscal Compact, after evaluation, the need to complete the banking union, the nedd to have a social dimension and so on and so forth."

SOUNDBITE (English), Roberto GUALTIERI (S&amp;D, IT), ECON Chair, "As the rapporteur said it is really important that the relevant committee in the EP adopted a very clear and strong position, before the release of the 4+1, 5 President's paper, now the EP is totally part of this debate, with a formal position adopted by its committee, and I will also clarify that it will be voted by the plenary before the European Council."

So we will really encourage the five Presidents to carefully read this report, to take it into account in the definition of a road map for deepening the Economic and Monetary Union, making it more effective, more democratic, and the Parliament will be an active partner in this process."
