Den Europæiske Karlspris for Unge blev oprettet i 2008, og den forvaltes i fælleskab af Europa-Parlamentet og Stiftelsen for Den Internationale Karlspris i Aachen. I år gik førstepladsen til "AILEM" fra Belgien – den første sprogapp nogensinde skræddersyet til flygtninge og asylansøgere.

2022 er det europæiske ungdomsår. Det betyder, at politikområdet uddannelse i år vil stå højt på Europa-Parlamentets dagsorden. Der er nogle udfordringer, der skal løses undervejs, heriblandt fortsættelsen af Erasmusprogrammet og planerne for et europæisk uddannelsesområde. Since the onset of the economic crisis, the EP has strongly supported the creation of a Youth Guarantee scheme, which was finally adopted in April 2013 as the Youth Employment Initiative (YEI).

The Youth Guarantee is a commitment by all Member States to ensure that all young people under the age of 25 years receive a good quality offer of employment, continued education, apprenticeship, traineeship, within a period of four months of becoming unemployed or leaving formal education.

The Youth Guarantee has become a reality across the EU and has helped to improve the lives of millions of young Europeans.

Youth Employment

The 2022 the European Year of Youth is a response to the difficult situation for young people during the pandemic, with consequences on their education, employment, social life, health and wellbeing. It also pays tribute to and takes inspiration from many young people who showed intergenerational solidarity to mitigate the impact of the crisis on society as a whole. The overall objective of the European Year of Youth is to reinforce the efforts of the Union, the Member States, regional and local authorities to support and engage with youth in a post-pandemic perspective. The European Year of Youth will go hand in hand with NextGenerationEU, which reopens perspectives for young people, including quality jobs and education and training opportunities for the Europe of the future, and supports young people's participation in society. The Year of Youth will seek synergies and complementarity with other EU programmes targeting youth across the policy spectrum - from rural development programmes focussed on young farmers to research and innovation programmes, and from cohesion to climate change actions - including EU programmes with international outreach or of a transnational nature. Apart from Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps, with budgets of €28 billion and 1€ billion respectively for the current financial period, the EU's Youth Guarantee and Youth Employment Initiative are creating more opportunities for young people. Also In 2022, a new programme called ALMA will be launched to support cross-border professional mobility for disadvantaged young people.

Mariya Gabriel, born on 20 May 1979 in Gotse Delchev, is a Bulgarian politician. She has been a European Commissioner since 2017.

After the hearing by the Committees on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) and on Culture and Education (CULT) of the European Parliament, the committees prepare an evaluation letter on the candidate. Parliament is expected to vote on the new Commission as a whole on 23 October.

Europe is experiencing a youth mental health crisis with half of all young Europeans now reporting poor mental health. The COVID-19 pandemic already placed significant pressure on young people’s mental health and the situation has intensified due to the crises encountered in recent years, including economic instability and geopolitical conflicts like the war in Ukraine. Meanwhile, social media is allowing youth to maintain friendships or engage with issues they care about, but also exposing them to bullying, threats and graphic reports of global problems. Konferencen om Europas fremtid afsluttedes med et særligt arrangement på Europadagen 2022 i Europa-Parlamentet i Strasbourg. Konferencens medformænd afleverede den endelige rapport til formændene for de tre vigtigste EU-institutioner. Den indeholder 49 forslag med mere end 300 initiativer til forbedring af Den Europæiske Union. Konferencen var en banebrydende øvelse i deltagelsesdemokrati og bragte borgere i forskellige aldre og med forskellige baggrunde og oprindelse sammen for at drøfte idéer ved arrangementer overalt i EU og i Europa-Parlamentet.
